I create art so that artifacts of my existence, of my hands and mind, might outlive me. I make art because I have wanted to since I learned how to manipulate and make mark on medium. Drawing was the beginning and has remained fundamental to my work. I make art to express my particular vision and share it with others so that it might enrich theirs. My intention is to make art that unites the head with the heart.
The infinite creativity of the universe we exist in and our capacity as humans to appreciate it through science and spirituality, is my primary source of inspiration. My art is documentation of this position, and our collective understanding, while attempting to denote intelligent design through a vocabulary of both natural and man-made forms and phenomena. I seek an aesthetic that is rooted in elemental and terrestrial simplicity and harmony, while implying civilization included in a larger natural order.
I find poetry in the unknown and the ways all things relate, so I experiment with the properties and boundaries of media and methods, language and concepts. While we come to explain reality by reducing it to distinct segments, we can never know entirely, only describe with our terms and within our frames. However, I think the more diversity we define is the more unity we fathom.
